We educated resident seniors at Channing House, on-site workers, management staff, PAF board members on the importance of advocating for speedy implementation of our Housing Element, emphasizing the need to continue working for more housing near transit, jobs, and services (which is lacking in our Housing Element), issued a call to action for residents to get involved. We described why Transit-Oriented Communities are key to a successful city and transit system.

This event was a gathering of PAF members to review our Housing Element policies that will facilitate more Transit-Oriented Communities and dense development near transit, more accessory dwelling unit construction, special-needs and affordable housing in transit rich areas, and better zoning near transit to allow more development in the near term.

We hosted a two-hour long downtown tall-buildings walking tour with professional architects from Van Meter Williams Pollack, PYATOK Architecture + Urban Design, and the Stanford architectural design school. The group learned why housing near transit in our downtown is essential. The group also learned how to characterize and discuss the overall "feel" of taller buildings, what features make them comfortable, what helps shield/blend buildings, or does amazing architecture want to be seen, and the trade-offs between height and other city priorities.

The TOC grant provided funding towards a second staff member - double our capacity for working towards a Transit Oriented Community.

How can we create transportation options for workers and residents  and address the housing shortage? What is Transportation Demand Management (TDM) and how can we implement it to reduce vehicle trips and lessen parking demand in our community?

We’ll discuss parking and traffic worries that are common barriers to addressing the housing shortage, and look towards local solutions. Together we'll myth-bust and think about how TDM measures can be implemented in our community, especially at new housing sites. Let's make transportation work for all of us!

We learned about how density contributes to the vibrancy and health of residents.

We supported two student led initiatives to table for earth day. At our table we talk about the intersection of the environment, transportation, and housing and encourage students to write down goals of how they can reduce their personal usage of green house gasses.
