Shared Streets Pilot

Email City Council before their June 8th Meeting!!

Palo Alto's small businesses and their employees are struggling to survive during COVID-19. And that's why the City of Palo Alto and Chamber of Commerce have been discussing a pilot program to close California and University Avenue to cars - opening it up to pedestrians in need of safe, social distancing and allowing our small businesses to get back to work.

According to the Chamber press release, there is overwhelming support. One business owner said, “Opening streets to outdoor seating would be brilliant for the community and essential for restaurants to survive. Strongly appreciate and support this idea.”

But this will not happen if City staff and City Council don't hear from residents too. Please join us in emailing Ed Shikada and the City Council before they discuss this at the June 8th Council meeting if you support this crucial pilot to save our business districts. Delaying a public decision only hurts our small businesses and their employees.
