Dutch Cycling Embassy

On May 8th, join us for desserts and conversation with the Dutch Cycling Embassy, hosted by Palo Alto Forward, Balanced Mountain View, and Transition Palo Alto.

The Dutch Cycling Embassy (DCE) will be on a California tour, meeting with officials from LA to SF - and they want to connect with grassroots cyclists here in Palo Alto. They will share their experiences and to offer us ideas and strategies to enhance our cycling culture. As the world’s number one cycling country, the DCE's goal is to facilitate cycling worldwide as the most modern, efficient and sustainable method of transport.

In the 1970's the Dutch were struggling with congestion, air pollution, increasing traffic accidents, and a decreasing quality of life (sound familiar?). At that point the they started to implement overt policies to increase biking and walking. This has resulted in a broad based bicycle culture and the highest rate of cycling in the world.

Today 80% of the Dutch use a bicycle to get to work, school and do errands and they own an average of 1.8 bicycles per person! While bike riding isn’t for everyone, it can really help with our quality of life here in Silicon Valley.

Cost: Free for Palo Alto Forward Members and $5 for non-members. All members of the public are welcome.
